The Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE) is a standardized test that individuals pursuing educational leadership positions, such as school administrators and principals, must pass.  The Florida Educational Leadership Exam tests a person’s proficiency in 10 standards, which are broken into three subtests. Those seeking educational leadership positions within the state of Florida must pass all three subtests.

Subtest 1 is a multiple-choice test covering the following standards:

  • Leadership for Student Learning
    • Student Learning Results
    • Student Learning as a Priority
    • Instructional Plan Implementation
    • Learning Environment

Subtest 2 is a multiple-choice test covering the following standards:

  • Organizational Development
    • Faculty Development
    • Leadership Development
    • Professional and Ethical Behavior

Subtest 3 is a combination multiple-choice and written performance assessment covering the following standards:

  • Systems Leadership
    • Decision Making
    • School Management
    • Communication

Important 2026 Changes to FELE

The Current Florida Educational Leadership Exam is being retired as of December 31, 2025. FELE 4.0 will roll out on January 1, 2026.

Here is some important information that you need to know:

If you’ve already started taking the current FELE, you will need to complete and pass all three subtests before the December 31, 2025 deadline. If you don’t pass all subtests by then, you’ll need to start fresh with FELE 4.0.

If you’re planning to take the FELE this year, then please start preparing for the FELE exam now as you will also need to pass all three subtests before the December 31, 2025 deadline. Order your FELE test prep materials, sign up for a FELE seminar or FELE tutoring, and pick up some FELE flashcards.

If you’re not planning to take the FELE until after 2025, then keep an eye on our website for further information and resources as they become available.
